About 40 years ago, I was in the doldrums of my life, basically singing the song “Is That All There is?”. I had tried years of talk therapy, psychoanalysis, read hundreds of books, explored different approaches to God. I even tried chanting. I was about to quit the whole damn search when something great happened to me.
To tell the truth, I don’t remember how much of it happened. Was it miraculous? Was it due to the work and study I’d done, my failures, my creativity, all of the above, or was it just plain good luck?

I remember thinking Transcendental Meditation was a useless activity in trying to clear one’s mind of any and all thoughts, as our own minds are always thinking. Even in our sleep, we are dreaming. Anyway, I learned that we are at our best when we are exuding alpha waves from our brains, and so I followed a routine on a daily basis. Everything I asked for came true within a short period of time.
- I’d been hunting for five years on a friend’s farm in upstate NY and never even got a shot at a deer. After six hours in the cold woods, I gave up. The farmer’s friend, who was visiting him, told me to go a quarter mile up a different trail. For the hell of it, I went, as it was my last day. I followed his advice and took the alternate route. I shot my first buck within fifteen minutes!
- I wanted something more for my life than working for bosses who withheld bonuses or gave 3% raises even though I’d done a great job. Within a year, I started my own sales and marketing business, and within 3 years was making $250,000 net.
- I wanted to meet a woman who could introduce me to new adventures. I did, and because of her, I wound up meeting many survivors of the Holocaust, visiting Israel, meeting Benjamin Netanyahu, and visiting many of the Holy places of the Old and New Testament. And as she was French, I also visited Paris.
- I wanted to broaden my social life and discovered that all the great museums in Manhattan offered membership opportunities. I joined the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, as well as a few others. My social life blossomed as I was being invited to two openings a month. They usually had an open bar, music, hors d’oeuvres, great art, and I was meeting creative type people.
So Alpha Meditation worked for me, and here is how it can work for you if you want to try it for yourself!
- Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed for 15-20 minutes on a daily basis.
- Be sure to turn your cell phone off, and sit up straight so you don’t fall asleep.
- Begin by taking deep breaths as you slowly relax your entire body from your forehead, face, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, fingers, chest, stomach, sides, back, groin, legs, feet and toes.
- Now that your body is relaxed, relax your brain and say the following: “I choose of my own free will, in concert with any and all powers of the universe available to help me accomplish the following for myself (response is individual).
- Now say what you want with complete confidence, and trust that you will get it. Let any doubt go in one ear and out the other.
Here are two of my favorite mantras that I often include in my meditation. If you like these, include them in yours, for as Picasso said, “If another painter has something in his work that I like, I steal it.”
- The only sin is the ‘Taking for Granted,’ the only necessary prayer is ‘Thank you.’
- The second a flower stops growing, it begins to die, and the second we stop learning, we begin to die. And I choose to learn today as much as I can.
ETERNAL MELODY
There is a silence within you
a silence housing a thunderous voice
a peaceful earthquake of your awakening
the orgasm of your creation
your very own unbearable lightness of being
all this awaits you – go there!
There is a silence within you
a silence emanating from an eternal melody
calling you to come, awaiting your return.
Go there
this is what you are
this is who you are!
The alpha omega singularity of your existence
something you have always known
the familiarity of your selfhood
that life force of your DNA and Soul
that place where nothing else intrudes
your home of comfort, the oasis you never left.
Let the longing within you be done with
allow yourself the freedom to arrive
here the merry-go-round and roller coaster finally cease
the grail you’ve always searched for
that diamond ring, that lottery ticket, your very own resurrection
all awaiting your acceptance of the silence within you!
Here the space between illusion and reality is buttoned
the gap between darkness and light is sparked
the place between the inhale and exhale is filled.
Go there now.
Go to the silence within you.
Limitless wealth and unimaginable love await your acceptance.
This is the promise of your birthright.
This is the dream you fully deserve.
