Food

Hi, before you go on with this section, I highly recommend that you read my poem, “The Taste, Smell and Colors of Poetry.” Hopefully, it will give you an appetite for a few OUTRAGEOUS recipes.

  1. What is a Pittsburgh Steak? The steelworkers of Pittsburgh who only had half an hour for lunch would throw their steak onto the hot molten steel frames. You can do it on a BBQ grill or in a frying pan with some melted butter. Blacken both sides of your steak to lock in the juices, and cook the inside to taste: rare, medium, medium-rare, or well done.
  2. Ray-man’s Heated Salad: Take three large lettuce leaves either romaine or iceberg overlapping in the middle. Place 3-4 slices of mozzarella cheese and a few sun-dried tomatoes between them, garnished with Italian breadcrumbs and a few drops of virgin olive oil and oregano. Place in the oven under the broiler for a few minutes until the cheese melts. The lettuce should not wilt if you keep an eye on it.

Two Toasts to Start an Enjoyable Meal:

  1. Have everyone hold up their glass of wine as you say, “In the tasting of the wine, we use our eyes to determine the clarity, our hand for touch, our nose for bouquet, and our lips and tongue for taste, and to include our fifth sense of hearing, we clink our glasses with each other.”
  2. Give everyone a small piece of bread as you say, “The word ‘companionship’ comes from two Italian words, ‘con’ meaning ‘with’ and ‘pane’ meaning ‘bread.’ With Bread, We Become Companions. Enjoy! Bon Appétit!”

THE TASTE, SMELL & COLORS OF POETRY

We need to eat more garlic drink more
wine grow more basil sniff more incense
touch more rose petals fly more kites
embrace more rainbows listen more
intently dream more miracles manifest
more genius consume more knowledge
kneel more at sunrise crack open more
nutty ideas make more love have more
faith hope and trust but mostly
forgiveness so we can heal laugh think
and love more and thereby reclaim our
birthright and until then walk in circles and
stand on our heads until the dizziness wakes
us up to who we really are.
